We have seen a lot of netbooks in the past few months. The market is growing steadily, and it has exceeded the expectations so far. But netbook manufactures are not going to stop innovating. There are plenty of niche markets that can be targeted with netbooks and wise companies are doing just that. Wyse X90CW is one of those innovative netbooks that is designed to address the needs of business individuals. While the device comes with some of the features we have seen on regular netbooks, it is designed to handle cloud and remote computing. The device doesn’t have a hard drive (not counting the 4GB Flash onboard).

Here is how the company behind this netbook hyped it up:

The Wyse X90cw is the new wave of compact, lightweight, high-performance internet devices that assures the end user experience is as good as, or better than, a comparable PC, but the security of a virtual client means that it’s now more dangerous to misplace a smartphone than it is a computer

So while this device may not become as popular as regular netbooks, it does address some essential needs for business individuals that handle sensitive data. The device is pricey at $699, but it does come with a decent set of specifications:

  • Processor: Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz
  • Memory: Windows Embedded Standard: 2GB Flash / 1GB RAM or 4GB Flash / 1GB RAM
  • Networking:
    • 10/100Base-T Fast Ethernet (RJ-45)
    • Integrated wireless 802.11 b/g/n
    • Bluetooth 2.1 +ERD
  • Display: 11.6″ WXGA LED backlight

Cloud computing is the future and Wyse X90CW may be ahead of the curve in that regard. But it is certainly not for everyone.
