Windows 7 for Netbooks: Worth an Upgrade?

1

The netbook market is growing fast, and it’s no wonder that Microsoft is dominating this market. A lot of netbooks come with Windows XP, and that has given Microsoft a boost in sales. The introduction of Windows 7 can change all that. Windows 7 is supposed to be all Vista promised to be. It is supposed to be easier to use and more secure. Microsoft promises better hardware compatibility and more features for desktop and laptop owners. But can Windows 7 be what the netbook market needs?

All the early indications point to the fact that Windows 7 is another bloated operating system that will make you want to upgrade your computer to get the best out of it. The latest Microsoft OS is going to be powerful but you don’t necessarily look for that kind of power on a netbook. Microsoft claims that it has worked with more companies this time around to provide a better hardware compatibility. Haven’t we heard that before?

Windows 7 is certainly a decent upgrade on Windows Vista. But Amazon has missed the boat a bunch of time already for me to suggest upgrading to Windows 7 to anyone. And when we talk about netbooks, I am not so sure Windows 7 is a good idea. Lightweight OS’ work much better on netbooks which is why Android and Linux could grab a decent market-share in the netbook market. So I would pass on Windows 7 for now.

What’s your take: will you upgrade to Windows 7?
