ASUS Eee PC 1016P Now Shipping

ASUS is expected to hold off introducing new netbooks until the whole N550 processor issue is worked out, but the company does have plenty of models for netbook fans to take advantage of. ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1016P is one of those models that may be worth a serious look. It takes advantage of ATOM N455 processor and has Windows 7 professional (instead of Starter edition). The inclusion of 2 GB of RAM and a 320 GB hard drive means that this is an ASUS netbook on steroids.

While we are still talking about a netbook, ASUS Eee PC 1016P specifications are pretty impressive:

  • Intel Atom N455 (1.66GHz)
  • Windows 7 Professional OS
  • 2 GB DDR3 SODIMM memory
  • 320GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM) (more…)

We had the heads up about Broadcom graphics technology making its way to the next generation netbooks, but it was not clear how many new netbooks will take advantage of it. It was not a surprise to see ASUS among the companies that will be releasing Broadcom-enabled netbooks. ASUS Eee PC 1005PR-PU17 is an exciting new book by ASUS that features 1366×768 screen resolution and takes advantage of Broadcom HD accelerator to give you 1080P quality video on your mini laptop.

The battery life is expected to be fairly long as well (set at 11 hours per charge). You also get plenty of storage to store and watch your movies on the go. You also get a lot of standard features that you get with most top ASUS netbooks. Here is a summary of what you can expect to find in this device:

  • Intel Atom N450 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2 Cache)
  • 10.1-Inch Color-Shine 1366X768 WXGA LED Display
  • Intel UMA graphics with Broadcom Crystal HD Accelerator
  • 1 GB DDR2 SODIMM memory, Max Capacity 2 GB
  • 250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM) + 500GB Free Web Storage
  • 802.11 b/g/n; Bluetooth; 0.3MP Webcam; Chiclet Keyboard
  • 11 Hours of Battery Per Charge

It’d be interesting to see whether this netbook can really deliver 11 hours of battery life. The fact that Windows 7 starter will be included on this netbook is not exactly great. But Broadcom technology should make it much easier for this device to handle graphics and HD video.

Asus Eee PC 1004dn Preview

The summer is finally upon us, and you can expet many netbook manufacturers to refresh their netbook offerings. Asus is no different. Asus Eee PC 1004dn is the next generation Asus netbook that improves upon previous Eee PCs in various areas. For starters, Asus Eee will finally get the faster N280 CPU. The hard drive capacity has also been improved to 120 GB.

The finger reader added to Asus Eee PC 1004dn should give you peace of mind if you are worried about others accessing your sensitive netbook data. The Eee keyboard is very easy to type on, so you won’t have any trouble blogging on this netbook. Best of all, you do get a DVD writer with this netbook. Now I am not sure having a DVD write is necessary, but it’s good to have the option.

Asus Eee PC 1004dn is a next generation netbook that addresses some of the fundamental issues with the current netbooks (security, storage, media). It will cost you somewhere in the $600s, but it does have many features to justify that price tag.

Your take: would you spend $600 on 1004dn Eee?

ASUS Eee PC 904HA – Review

ASUS Eee PC 904HA 8.9-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony

Asus is known for having some of the best netbooks available on the market. ASUS Eee PC 904HA is one of those netbooks. It is designed for business professionals and those who are constantly on the go. The device is tiny and yet powerful enough to allow you to get the job done. ASUS is known for putting extra attention in quality, and this netbook is certainly a high quality item. So let’s see what 904HA has to offer:

  • Screen: you get a 8.9 inch screen that is not too big but doesn’t require you to put extra burden on your eyes to see things on your laptop.
  • CPU: Atom N270 has become the standard CPU on top netbooks these days. N280 is coming to new netbooks but you still get a lot of value with this CPU.
  • Battery: Asus’ hybrid energy is legendary for allowing folks to use their batteries for hours. It’s just an efficient engine that gets you more out of your battery. In this case, you get about 5.5 hours of work time with your netbook.
  • Keyboard: I found the keyword to be not too hard to get used to. When you switch from an 18 inch laptop to a 9 inch one, you are always going to have to adjust, but this one was very easy to get used to.
  • Wireless: I wish this item supported wireless N connection. You do get the standard wireless G support, which is fast enough to get work done.
  • Hard Drive: you get a 160 GB hard drive with your Eee PC. Your drive comes with 2 equal 80 GB partitions. That’s probably the best way if you want to use one drive to back up your important data and the other for your OS activities.
  • Weight: 904HA weighs about 3 pounds. It’s easy to take it over your trips.
  • Web Cam: the Web Cam on this device comes with 1.3 MP resolution. It is great for having video chats while you are on the go.
  • Eee Storage: this is my favorite feature. You get 10GB Eee Storage with easy accessibility anywhere online. If you have valuable files that you want to backup, this is a life-saver.
