Onkyo DX netbook: 2 Screens Better Than One?

Netbook makers are under constant pressure to innovate and find new ways to stay relevant with all the tablets and shiny gadgets that are making their way to the market. Some netbook makers have added tablet functionality. Some others have focused on more powerful processors. A small group are working on dual screen netbooks. We have already seen dual-screen e-book readers. Onkyo DX netbook goes well beyond that. It has 2 10.1 inch screen and takes advantage of AMD 1.6GHz Neo MV-40 processor.

You can almost call this a fully-fledged laptop. Onkyo DX not only has 2 10.1” 1366 x 768 displays, it also features AMD M780G chipset, ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics, and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Windows 7 premium is included too. The tablet folds too, so it’s pretty portable. The trouble? Those 2 screens are going to make it very hard to get more than just a couple of hours of operation from your battery. The company claims the battery life to be around 4 hours. We’ll believe it when we see it.The device is going on sale for almost $1000. That’s pretty expensive for a netbook that won’t have a long battery life and won’t be as portable as other netbooks around. Very interesting concept, but this is a niche product at this point.
