If you can’t beat them, join them. That’s exactly what ASUS has done by forming a partnership with Amazon to bring Amazon Kindle for PC software to ASUS netbooks. Netbook owners can install the software manually, but ASUS customers won’t have to as Kindle will be pre-installed on select new ASUS netbooks and laptops. Eee PC 1005PE and UL30 seem to be the first models to take advantage of this new partnership. Here he is the complete list of models that will have Kindle software pre-installed:
That’s a good move for both sides. ASUS gets to push the whole partnership as an exclusive feature to ASUS customers. Amazon gets to sell more e-books and expand its platform. Let’s not forget that Amazon sells a ton of ASUS netbooks too. Of course, we are not a big fan of those pre-installed software apps. Considering that everyone can install Kindle apps manually, this is not really that big of a deal.
Kindle for PC lets customers enjoy over 540,000 books in the Kindle Store even if they don’t yet have a Kindle, and its the perfect companion application for the millions of Kindle and Kindle DX owners.
