Whatever Happened To Intel Netbooks Apps

Everybody seems to be introducing their own apps these days. We have iPhone apps, Android apps, and even apps for e-readers such as Kindle. So is it really a surprise that Intel has been working to develop netbook-specific apps? We heard about netbook apps a while ago, and while there seems to be some promise as far as the concept is concerned, Intel hasn’t shown us too many apps yet. That could all change as Intel readies to unveil a few of its apps at Mobile World Congress.

Intel is planning to unveil 8 netbook apps at the event, and there is more to come. You can get a taste for some other apps on AppUp Center already. Among these apps, you can find a video editor, a DVD player, and a social networking app among other things.Personally, I am still not sold on the idea of netbook apps. It’s one thing to use apps to enhance the capability of a smart-phone such as iPhone or Nexus One. But I am not sure these apps can be as popular on netbooks. Once more developers start developing apps for netbooks, we will know more about the potential of this strategy by Intel.

Let’s hope more netbook makers add GPS capability to their netbooks, and then we can talk about some real fun apps. Netbook apps won’t probably be as popular as iPhone apps, but there will be a market for them. One can’t fault Intel for trying.

Your take: are you excited about netbook apps?
