B&N Targets Students with NOOKstudy

A while ago, Amazon started a partnership with ASUS to bring the free Kindle software to a select ASUS netbook models. Barnes & Noble may not have such plans in place, but it does intend to give students who own a laptop/netbook a very handy tool to study their text-books without having to carry the load around with them. NOOKstudy lets students download thousands of digital text-books to study and take highlights on. It’s also capable of capturing lecture notes and offers full-color (as opposed to what you get on devices such as Kindle DX and nook).

NOOKstudy will remember the last page that one has read and automatically brings it up the next time it is started. From the looks of it, it can help students become more organized with their notes too. Its success will come down on how much money students can save with this software. Text-books are expensive and heavy to take around. This software addresses the second part, but there is not a lot known about the prices of these digital text-books (or whether B&N intends to offer discount to NOOKstudy users).

Students can’t sell those digital text-books, so the prices need to be more affordable for students to give this a serious look. Still, NOOKstudy is a nice addition to Nook family if you are a fan of B&N and its service.
