Japanese computer maker NEC is planning to bring a thin, lightweight Android netbook to the market. This is a hybrid device with a 1024 x 600 pixel display, a fully QWERTY keyboard, and WiFi/3G. The device weighs only 0.8 lbs and offers 10 hours of battery life. A video demonstration of the device has already surfaced online:

It is not that difficult to tell the difference between iPad and most netbooks these days. They not only have drastically different designs, they have very different hardware. After all, there are not any netbooks that actually ship with A5 processor inside. SmartPaddle is a different kind of tablet though. It is a 10.2 inch tablet with a capacitive screen and Windows 7 on-board. (more…)
Ultrabooks are the next big things in the world of laptops. These devices are highly portable, slim, and more powerful than netbooks. It just happens that they cost a whole lot more. They are still a bit cheaper than Macbook Air though. Aspire S3 is not only very thin but quite lightweight too. It has a Intel Core i5, 1.66GHz processor inside with an Intel HD 3000 graphics card.
Here are the full specifications for Aspire S3:
Many of us have bought netbooks in the past only to find their performance to leave a whole lot to be desired. Windows 7 starter software which is installed on many of the today’s netbooks has many limitations and is not necessarily the fastest OS on slower machines. Lubuntu is a lightweight Linux distribution that gives netbook owners another option.

There is no question that tablets are on the rise these days. With iPad dominating the market and Android partners trying hard to catch up, these tiny devices are expected to remain popular for the foreseeable future. According to ABI research, 75% of total UMD shipments will be tablets. (more…)
Netbooks may be super portable gadgets, but you are still going to need a good carrying case to take them with you on the go. You can always settle for a netbook case to keep your gadget protected on the go, but totes/bags are more handy if you don’t want to carry your netbook with you in your hand at all times. Netbook totes are great for women on the move. They are easy to handle, and they do keep your netbook safe. And they don’t take too much space anyway. So if you have got your netbook and are looking for a cool carrying case, you should try these 8 netbook totes:

SOLO Ladies Laptop Tote: a rugged but easy-to-carry tote for netbooks. It can hold your accessories and business documents too.

Clark & Mayfield Sellwood Netbook Tote: a premium tote bag for netbooks that fits 9-11 inch netbooks and has plenty of pockets and space for accessories and other things to carry around. It has a premium look and feel and is durable too.

Black Ladies Business Tote: comes with a cool netbook sleeve to give you everything you need to keep your gadget protected on the go. It’s very solid, and it comes with enough space to let you carry other things that you need to carry with you at all times.

The netbooks are dying products. They won’t disappear in the next few months. But more netbook makers are now focusing on other markets as the netbook market slows down. Even Intel is now admitting that netbooks may be done:
The netbook was a very interesting product as it enabled a lower price point which helped expand the user base. However, it did not grow as much as we expected. It turned out to be a low-end booster rather than a focus on useability. It is hard to say whether the netbook is finished – price point is still very important with users. (more…)

Android netbooks have been around for quite some time. Many of us expected them to do better than they did. But the netbook market was derailed by tablets, e-readers, and those types of gadgets. That has not kept NEC for introducing new, cool looking netbooks to the market though. NEC MGX is a super thin Android netbook that runs Android 1.6. (more…)
Many netbook makers are counting on the holiday shopping season to unload their current inventory. New netbook models are on the way as well. So far, tablets have been taking marketshare away from netbooks. We have already seen the prices of netbooks falling somewhat in the past few months. Unfortunately for the players in the market, Amazon is aiming to grab its own piece of the pie in the tablet market. Kindle Fire, which costs only $199, could potentially take business away from netbooks. (more…)
