Tablet Sales Passed Netbook Sales in Q2

The netbook market has been slowing down for a few months already. But netbook makers have been still selling a good number of netbooks. According to ABI Research’s latest report, tablets overtook netbooks in sales for the first time in Q2 2011. The report suggests 13.6M tablets were shipped in the second quarter of 2011 (in comparison to 7.3 netbook units shipped). (more…)

Asus N Series Notebooks Debut

ASUS may be less involved in the netbook market. But the company still makes decent laptops. Its new N Series notebooks have been announced in Europe. Sprint Ends Unlimited Data Plan for Netbooks, Tablets

Carriers are simply not able to make enough money from their unlimited data plans. We have known for quite some time that the days of carriers such as Sprint offering unlimited data plans to their tablet or netbook customers are numbered. Tablets pass netbooks in shipments

Tablets have been on the rise for a couple of years already. The tablet market is still being dominated by iPad. But other tablets are starting to make their presence known as well. The more tablets become popular, the less netbooks will be shipped. In fact, tablet shipments have surpassed netbook shipments for the first time. ABI Research announced there were 13.6 million tablets shipped this quarter, compared to 7.3 million netbooks. This is a trend that probably won’t be reversed anytime soon.

Netbooks may not be as popular as they used to be in the U.S., where people are spending money on tablets. But they can be quite useful in the developing world.
