Most people you meet have probably heard of netbooks one way or another. But how about smartbooks? How many people are familiar with these mobile devices that lie somewhere between smartphones and laptops? In case you are not familiar with smartbooks, here is how Wikipedia defines them:
A smartbook is a mobile device that falls between smartphones and netbooks, delivering features typically found in smartphones
Smartbooks are expected to be the next battle-field for mobile PC makers. These devices are not as capable as netbooks but do give you the ability to take your life on the go and manage it on the road. Many companies are expected to come up with their own smartbooks in the near future, though the future of this market will depend on how consumers react to the concept behind these devices. Lenovo is one of the companies that is expected to release its own smartbook at CES. The device is expected to have an HD display and will be offered through AT&T. The jury is still out on the future of smartbooks. It’s tough to see where the market will go considering that Apple is planning to release a tablet to the market. Depending on the execution, these devices may have a chance. But we will have to wait to find out about the long-term viability of smartbooks.

Windows 7 launched a few weeks ago with so much promise. The operating system has been improved in a lot of areas to make it much easier for you to get the most out of your personal computer. The latest netbooks that have been released to the market take advantage of this new operating system as well. But here is the catch, expect few netbooks here and there, most Windows 7 netbooks come with the starter edition of the operating system. So you are getting a shell of Windows 7 on your netbook.
It’s true that Windows 7 is faster than Windows XP, but it could be resource heavy especially if you only have 1 GB of RAM on your netbook. Since most netbooks come with that much memory, you may want to take time to upgrade your netbook. But certainly not for Window 7 starter. Windows 7 starter is a great way to get your hands wet with the new operating system, but by no means it should be your main operating system. It is limited in so many ways and certainly not worth dealing with its restrictions when you can have Windows XP. But Microsoft does seem to be getting paid more for Windows 7 Starter: (more…)

The latest netbook/tablet hybrid by Asus is finally out and shipping on Amazon and other major retailers. ASUS was one of the first companies that came up with the idea of combining tablets and netbooks to develop a hybrid device. Netbooks are portable and capable of performing web-based tasks. By adding touch capability, ASUS has made these devices a good tool to own for business and design professionals.
Here are the specifications for ASUS Eee PC T91MT-PU17:
The bad news is that this device will cost you $500+ at this point. But if you need a portable tablet to take with you on the go, this device could come in handy.

Not everyone can afford those expensive Apple Macbooks these days. They cost you close to $1000 (at least) and are certainly not for everyone. At the same time, you can’t deny the fact that Mac OS is one fun operating system to play with. And the fact that you can install it on a netbook gives you the chance to own a Mac-netbook without having to pay thousands of dollars to Apple. But there is one problem: Apple is not going to let you get away with it. Apple seems to have dropped a bomb on hackintosh netbooks by disabling support for ATOM processors.
Hackintosh netbooks used to work fine before Apple decided to stop the practice of installing Mac OS on netbooks. If you have a hackintosh netbook, you may want to stay away from any updates in the near future. Unless, you want your hackintosh to stop working.
Unfortunately, Apple is not giving us a netbook, and it doesn’t want anyone to install its operating system on netbooks either. Where does that leave us?

When we talk about netbooks, people don’t often think of Velocity Micro and other less famous brands around. But there are plenty of smaller companies around that are coming up with their own brand of netbooks to give consumers more option. Velocity Micro NoteMagix v10m is a Windows 7 netbook that lets you enjoy Windows 7 on the go while spending less money on your netbook. The netbook doesn’t come with the latest features that you see in other top netbooks from Toshiba and Asus. It does come with decent networking features and 6 hours of battery life per charge. The body does seem slick though it’s hard to tell before testing the netbook.
Here are the main features of this netbook:
The netbook market got a much needed boost in the October this year. As you may know, Windows 7 has finally made its long awaited debut. Windows Vista was quite a tough one to figure out. Microsoft promised a lot with Windows Vista but a lot of people felt left down with Vista’s glitches. Windows 7 is considered to be everything Vista promised to be and more. It’s faster, more flexible, and much easier to use.
Windows 7 netbooks have finally made it to the market. There were a lot of promotions going around on these new netbooks, and while most of them come with Windows 7 starter, it’s still better than playing with Vista. With that in mind, here are the top 3 netbooks for the month of October (find the complete netbook rankings here).

ASUS has been one of the top players in the netbook market since the very start. ASUS netbooks are known for their long battery life, their decent design, and their cutting edge features. ASUS is not just interested in conquering the netbook market. It’s also using its innovative ways to develop hybrid niche products for those who are looking for more than a netbook. ASUS Eee Touch T91 Tablet Netbook is one of those devices. The device is designed for those who wanted to get tablet like features on their netbooks. You can now add ASUS Eee PC T91MT-PU17 to the family. ASUS Eee PC T91MT-PU17 has gotten an upgrade in a few areas and added Windows 7 to make your experience with your tablet more convenient.

ASUS Eee PC T91MT-PU17 has gotten a big upgrade in the storage department. You now get a 32 GB solid state drive that helps you store more of your files on your netbook.
