So much for AMD not being interested in the netbook market? The company had focused mainly on more lucrative markets, but we all knew it was a matter of time before the company entered the netbook market. ASUS, which seems to be at the forefront of many new developments in the netbook market, is planning to utilize an AMD dual core CPU in Eee PC 1201T. So you not only get what AMD has to offer, but your dual core netbook can handle those complex applications more easily.
Here are a few features that you get with ASUS’ upcoming netbook:
It’s certainly not your average netbook. With 2 gigs of RAM and a decent graphics chip, this netbook is certainly as capable as some of the laptops on the market. Of course, don’t expect to get this netbook for cheap.

There has never been a better time to pick up a netbook. 2009 is finally coming to a close and many netbook makers are gearing up for the next generations of their netbook models. So you can expect the price of current generation netbooks to drop for these holiday seasons. Amazon is one of the top retailers that has dropped its netbook prices dramatically in the past few days, perhaps to boost sales ahead of the holiday season.
Take ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X. It used to be sold for $380, but it’s now going for close to $340. The same goes with top Toshiba netbooks that have received some discount as well. Black Friday will let you save even more on some of these netbooks, though you may have to get to a store to take advantage of those limited quantity deals. But if you have needed a netbook for business or travel, the time to purchase one is now. (more…)

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the tech industry is abuzz over Google’s plans to strike a blow to Microsoft’s core business and change the operating system paradigm by offering web-centric OS on ultra mobile PCs and netbooks at some point in the near future. But Google is not going to be the only game in town in the web-centric OS market. Microsoft may be too stubborn to realize the flaws within its current business model, but there are smaller companies that are planning to join the Web OS movement.
Jolicloud is yet another Web OS that is designed for netbooks and gives users a more Mac-like experience. The software is based on Ubuntu Linux, so it’s not too tough to figure out why the interface will be much more familiar than that of Google Chrome. It will also provide better support for video and web on netbooks. What makes Jolicloud different is the fact that you can store your information locally as well. So you won’t have to worry about these web companies spying on everything you work on your computers. (more…)

There are a lot of people who buy those best-seller netbooks and don’t even bother to search through the list of netbooks available on the market to find the best model for them. After all, if a model has worked for others, it will work for them as well. But there are a few gems in the netbook market, if you look hard enough. litl Webbook seems to be one of those. It’s an innovative netbook that is designed for the internet junkies. The device comes with two modes: you can use it as a traditional laptop for browsing. If that’s not enough, in upright easel mode, you can watch photos, video, news and other web content. So you could say litl Webbook is not your average netbook.
litl Webbook comes with its own software and hardware. The manufacturer has taken a page out of Apple’s book to develop a hardware-software set that goes hand in hand. The focus of the company is on content. While this netbook comes with a 1.6 Ghz CPU and 1gb of RAM, it’s still not designed to handle more complex computer applications. But there are plenty of things to be excited about. The fact that you don’t have to download patches and software updates yourself. Or the innovative wheel that makes going through your content easier (catch a video demonstration after the break): (more…)

A lot of people have been excited about Android netbooks. There aren’t many of them around, but it’s certainly nice to have the option to dump Windows 7 and take advantage of Android. But Google Chrome is what is keeping people abuzz in the technology world. Google is fundamentally changing the way we go about running software on our computer. The Windows model is certainly old and outdated. Google Chrome OS will run applications hosted as services in the Internet “cloud,” which means manufacturers can offer cheaper netbooks without affecting the experience of the users. Cloud computing is the future, and Google Chrome OS will finally change the way we work with data on our computers. Here is a brief overview of the system by the good folks at Netbook News:

ION netbooks are on the rise. There is no question at this point that we will see these netbooks make their debut sooner rather than later. Netbooks have been getting a lot of flak for not being able to handle those more complicated graphic tasks and for being somewhat slow with some operations. That’s about to change with the next generation netbooks.
Asus Eee PC 1201N netbook is one of those ION powered netbooks that are expected to take the market by storm. The device is not only powerful, but it comes with features not seen in other netbooks. This new netbook will have Nvidia Ion graphics (GeForce 9400M chipset), a speedy 1.6GHz Intel Atom N330 Dual Core, and high definiti0n audio. In essence, this new device addresses some of the weak areas that current netbooks on the market suffer from.
Eee 1201N is not only powerful but comes with a larger screen. The device has been improved so much that you could go ahead and call it a fully-fledged laptop. With the dual-core CPU and 3 GB of RAM, the device should be capable of handling those more complex tasks. I still wouldn’t install MAYA on it, but you should have an easier time watching videos and working on more sophisticated processes on your netbook. Who says the netbook market is dead?

I have never been a fan of subsidized netbooks. The idea of paying thousands of dollars to save a couple of hundred dollars has never made sense to me. But some people don’t have a need for a netbook unless they can get wireless Internet on it at all times. For those people, subsidized netbooks could make sense. That is if wireless companies offer them a good bunch of netbooks to choose from. If you have been shopping around for a wireless netbook bundle, you are going to have one more option to choose from — Samsung Go.
Samsung Go is one of the best netbooks on the market, and it is going to be subsidized through AT&T. It’s about time wireless companies offered a decent subsidized netbook. Samsung Go is certainly that and more. Here is what Samsung had to say about this piece of news:
Samsung today announced the upcoming availability of the Samsung Go™, a compact and lightweight netbook with instant access to broadband speeds powered by the nation’s fastest 3G network and the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter Edition operating system…. The Go will be available beginning Nov. 22 through AT&T retail locations or online at www.att.com/netbooks.
That’s certainly good news for people who are looking for these bundles. If you are to spend a big chuck of money on a wireless + netbook bundle, you may as well pay to get a decent netbook. Samsung Go is certainly that.

We have been hearing about the next generation ATOM N450 CPU for a while now. Any netbook that you pick up these days either has a N270/280 or a Z-class ATOM processor. But we have not seen those faster ATOM processors, and it doesn’t seem we are going to see them by the end of this year. But Lenovo and other manufacturers seem to be ready to introduce these next generation netbooks soon.
Lenovo IdeaPad FL5-B3 takes advantage of N450 “Pineview” that is more compact and more energy efficient. It will also make it much easier for manufacturers to come up with netbook models that are capable of handling more complex tasks.
Netbooks are going to get more energy efficient and more capable of handling more complex applications. It will take time, but with the next generation CPUs on the way, it’s just a matter of time.

The netbook market has seen a lot of highs in the past few months. When the PC market was struggling, computer manufacturers turned to netbooks as a part of their strategy to attract customers who were looking for a web device that was portable and energy efficient. Netbook manufacturers have made a lot of money, selling lots of netbook units in the past few months. But there are signs that the market may be slowing down, especially with the egg that manufacturers have laid by adopting Windows 7 Starter on new Netbooks.
Don’t get me wrong. People will continue purchasing netbooks and laptops in 2010. But the current line up of netbooks on the market are not something to write home about as far as speed and performance is concerned. A lot of us have gotten used to getting our hands on powerful notebooks at home. While netbooks do provide you with a chance to surf the Internet and manage your email, wave, and social media accounts on the road, you can’t expect to pull off anything resource intensive on your netbook.
